#DirectedbyWomen Streaming Picks for June 2019

Looking to knock out more of your #52FilmsByWomen goal for 2019? You've come to the right place. Below, you'll find every woman-directed film added to Amazon Prime, Criterion Channel, Hulu, Netflix, and Shudder, plus a few top picks from yours truly.

First up, it feels like it's been a while since Dorothy Arzner films have been available on streaming platforms, and after seeing a few of her movies at the New Beverly last month (including my favorite, The Wild Party, I'm looking to knock out the rest of her filmography, starting with 1937's Craig's Wife, available on the Criterion Channel on June 5. The service is also adding Agnès Varda's One Sings, the Other Doesn't, which I have yet to see, and Donna Dietch's Desert Hearts (just in time for pride month)!

I'm also happy to report that the wildly underrated spy farce buddy comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me is coming to both Amazon Prime and Hulu toward the end of the month. Highly recommended, thanks to strong performances by Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis (alongside a perfectly cast Justin Theroux), and some pretty fantastic shootout scenes that fully earn the film's R rating. Well done, Susanna Fogel. Hulu's also offering up Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break (which I have probably seen a million times and will never tire of) just in time for summer.

Netflix will be streaming Nijla Mu'min's debut feature, Jinn, which premiered at SXSW 2018 to great acclaim. With all the conversation going on around Twitter surrounding representation for women of color in coming-of-age stories, this one feels pretty essential right now!
